• Grinding — This is the quickest way to take out a stump and leave your lawn ready for development. We use a high-powered grinder to break the stump into smaller units (about the same size as mulch). The woodchips can be returned to the hole, and the area can be covered with soil and seeded. The roots are usually left in place, so it's a good idea to avoid planting a new tree in exactly the same spot.
• Manual removal — Some stumps can be removed by digging or pulling them out of the ground. This requires a variety of saws and shovels, plus a vehicle or mechanism strong enough to pull out the stump.
• Rotting — Allowing the stump to rot naturally is a possibility, but it's slow (often taking 8-10 years) and runs the risk of developing sprouts that turn into unattractive shrubs.
